FACT: “Silver” or amalgam dental fillings contain from 48-55 percent mercury, 33-35 percent silver, and various amounts of copper, tin, zinc, and other metals. Since mercury is the major component of the material, any representation of the material should include the word “mercury”.

We come across a lot of articles about healthy eating and healthy recipes. However in Ayurveda there is a detailed study on how the food that we eat should be served. This is so that we eat a balance meal each and every day. This way of serving food could still be seen in some parts of India especially in the Western state of Maharashtra.

Amalgam is the generic term applied to the silver-mercury filling commonly used in dentistry to restore teeth. Amalgam is also known as the “silver filling” (due to its shiny appearance) or the silver-mercury filling. Amalgam literally means mixed with mercury and in the dental sense that is true.

We read and hear about the Dentists’ viewpoint - and that of the Canadian Dental Association - that mercury toxicity affects very few people. It is not toxic enough for its use to be banned in Canada - but has anyone heard from patients so affected? Or even dentists?
