Herb Robert (geranium robertianum)

by Joanne Giroux

Herb Robert is a rather fanciful looking plant with light to dark foliage which spreads out like a fan from dark red stems. It’s flowers are a bright pink which display their beauty from spring to fall. Herb Robert grows at both high and low elevations, along river banks, roadsides, lakes and waste areas. Scientists, botanists and herbalists have taken notice over the past few years that Herb Robert is especially abundant in high radiation zones, whether the radiation is emitted from hydro lines above or below ground or geopathic stress zones. Radiation testing of the soil in some areas has been conducted and the areas in which this herb grows has a lesser radiation level. It is suspected that this herb absorbs radiation from the soil and disperses of it. Not only does it help the soil but it has also helped animals and people to lower radiation levels.

The First Nations folk have used this herb internally for diarrhea, gastrointestinal infections, peptic ulcers and bleeding. Externally this herb has been used for wound healing, skin eruptions and herpes.

Plants thrive in shady, damp places, growing very quickly, flowering profusely, and self seeding readily. If leaves are picked regularly, the bush will produce a bounty of leaves, provided it is fed and watered consistently. No insect pest bothers it; it is said the smell of the leaves act as an insect deterrent and can be used in animals' bedding.

The herb is cut when flowering begins and the roots are harvested in late fall. The seeds seem to find their way to all sorts of places and settle in quite easily ensuring a good crop the following year. Herb Robert may be used fresh or dried, in decoctions, infusions, powder, tablets and tinctures. It contains significant amounts of Vitamins A, B and C as well as these minerals: calcium, potassium, magnesium, iron, phosphorus and germanium. This herb’s action is one of the most outstanding herbs that we can use regularly, as an enhancer of the immune system.

Herbs find their way to where they are needed. It is Universal Law.
