2008 and the Year of the Rat

by MARLYNA LOS

East meets West with Asian New Years Customs making their way to you. The year of the Rat is coming. The Chinese have studied the energies of time for 1000’s of years and are masters at prediction. We look here at how 2008 affects people and your home.

The Concept of the Cosmic Trinity is at the centre of Chinese Metaphysics. The Cosmic Trinity of Heaven, Earth and Man, is considered the fundamental framework of the universe.

Heaven Energy looks at the energy you were born with and time; Earth Energy is your environment; Feng Shui and Man Energy is what you do with what you have been given. The Energies of the year of the Rat are seen to influence your heaven and earth energy. This is a general look at your home and astrology. People and homes have a template or natal chart that for a complete analysis needs to be considered as well.

The celebration for the Year of the Rat takes place on the New Moon on February 7th. However, Astrologers use February 4th and the Solar Calendar to make their calculations for predictions in the upcoming year.

Millions of Asian People are already getting ready for the New Year. They likely had their four pillars astrology chart done at birth and are very aware of how the upcoming energies of the year will be affecting them. For instance, single ladies and men born in the year of the Sheep, Pig or Rabbit would know that the year of Rat is considered to be their “flower of romance” year. There is a high likelihood of romance or marriage coming their way. Fear not if you are looking for romance and you are born in a different year, as there are four pillars – the year, month, day and hour of your birth are all represented.

Tzu Ping Four Pillars astrology takes the moment or day that you were born and records that information into Four Pillars. Each Pillar yields two elements, one of the 12 animals and one of the five elements. 2008 is the year of the Earth Rat. The Rat is water, so this year we have earth and water energy. Good or bad luck this year depends on how these energies mix with the elements in your chart.

The Year of the Rat is the first animal in the Chinese Zodiac. This year is considered a year of new beginnings for all of us. A Rat year is a time of hard work, activity and renewal. Overall, it is a good year for launching new products, fresh starts and beginning a new job and even marriage.

The Rat is known for its charm and its intelligence and innovation.

The Rat belongs to the water element and is strong water; it is also the first of the 12 animal signs.

People who are born in the year of the Rat are known for there charm. They are ambitious and intelligent. They love to socialize and party and can talk up a storm. However, they are actually private people and will usually keep their problems to themselves. Rats are known for being good at business, very organized, quick witted, confident and stubborn. They are often hoarders, and have trouble letting go of things, “You never know when you will need this.”

People born in the year of the Earth Rat are respected, courageous and enterprising people. Of course, the entire horoscope must be considered when making any in-depth assessments.

FORECAST:

Rat (if you were born in 1996 1984 1972 1960 1948 1936 1924)
This year should be a happy year for you Rats. You will feel more grounded and stable. Things are looking up this year for you. Guard against putting your energy into too many directions. Do not neglect your family. With hard work you will gain the recognition you seek this year.

Ox (if you were born in 1997 1985 1973 1961 1949 1937 1925)
The Ox is a good friend to the Rat. People born in the year of the Ox have a positive edge this year. The hardworking and realistic Ox can expect solid opportunities and good news this coming year. Investments are likely to bring profit and reward.

Tiger (if you were born in 1998 1986 1974 1962 1950 1938 1926)
The Tiger’s wood element is stabilized by the earth energy of the upcoming year. The Tiger loves the new ideas the Rat year brings, but I advise that you check out with advisors before you leap into any action. Rewards will come from paying attention to details and heeding advice from experts. There is a travel sign for you this year.

Rabbit (if you were born in 1999 1987 1975 1963 1951 1939 1927)
The Rabbit is generally favored in the year of the Rat. The Rabbit’s quick mind will find ways to benefit from the innovative changes that the Rat energy brings. The beneficial water energy and wisdom of the Rat is food for the Rabbit with the earth energy providing good grounding. It should prove to be a hectic year, as the new ideas will make for a busy schedule. The Rat is your flower of romance animal, also bringing the likelihood of new romance, especially in the latter part of the year.

Dragon (if you were born in 1988 1976 1964 1952 1940 1928)
The Dragon is closely connected to the Rat and is favored this year. This should be a lucky year for you. Both money and business look promising. School and writing exams are favorable, too. This is a year of working well with others and a year of more gains than losses.

Snake (if you were born in 1989 1977 1965 1953 1941 1929)
This year will be a better year for you after the rattling year of the Pig. It is a year of power and travel for you. You will feel more protected this year. Be discreet though, as there is a chance of attracting gossip and marking your reputation. Be cautious with your promises and generosity and look forward to a year of social affairs and celebrations.

Horse (if you were born in 1990 1978 1966 1954 1942 1930)
You are opposite the sign of the Rat this year. This is going to be a year of opportunity and change. There will be good mixed in with the bad. This is not a year to make quick decisions. This is a good year to work on developing deeper insights of your psyche. The Earth energy will help to keep you stable as you will be tempted to rebel against authority. You will be wise to overlook faults and work with the Rat’s energy of team work and cooperation.

Sheep (if you were born in 1991 1979 1967 1955 1943 1931 1919)
This year brings changes that will help the sheep to grow emotionally and mentally. This is a romance year for you – favoring new romance. If you are married you may find yourself in some conflict with your spouse. Use your head and logic instead of your heart and stick to plans. You are favored for money and luck but guard against instabilities.

Monkey (if you were born in 1992 1980 1968 1956 1944 1932 1920)
The Rat and the Monkey are good friends; this should be a good year for you. Your reputation and wealth will improve. There are chances for promotion; if you work for yourself it is a good time to consider expansion. This is a good year for a wedding. Make sure to pace yourself or you might end up with digestive health problems.

Rooster (if you were born in 1993 1981 1969 1957 1945 1933 1921)
Overall this is a year of stability and good news for the Rooster. It will be a busy year. Take advantage of the Rat’s energy to get your house in order. There may be difficulty in communication and you may end up in controversies and arguments. Take caution against gossiping and guard your behavior. Your romance sign is strong and there will be a lot of socializing.

Dog (if you were born in 1994 1982 1970 1958 1946 1934 1922)
There will be opportunities coming your way for you to take advantage of. You may have some tough choices to make this year, but you will feel good about them. It is best for you to rely on yourself this year, be conservative and it is not a year to start something new and risky.

Pig (if you were born in 1995 1983 1971 1959 1947 1935 1923)
The sun is going to shine on you this year. What a relief after last year. Many people may have thought that the year of the Pig would have been a good year, but it actually forms a penalty with itself and was likely a year of challenges. But that is now behind you and this year will see you doing very well. It is still not a year though to gamble or take risks. You will have much to celebrate this year – romance, career, social and family events are all going your way.

CHINESE NEW YEAR’S DO AND DON’TS

Before the New Year of February 7th:

  • Give your home a good spring cleaning, clear away clutter and make room for the New Qi of the New Year.
  • Decorate your home with auspicious symbols, good wishes and blessings. The Chinese use “Lucky Papers” to decorate their home. They prefer wishes over resolutions, as resolutions are up to us and wishes can be granted by the Gods. Typical wishes are of Happiness, Wealth, Prosperity, Longevity, Unexpected money, Good Health are written in Calligraphy and put up around the house, especially near the front door. While this is not our culture, we can learn from creating such positive statements around our home and hang up pictures or place items that will bring in positive energy. It is true that energy follows thought and good time to set your intentions for the new year and anchor them with décor.

In summary, the year of the Rat is a favorable year for the Monkey, Dragon and Ox. The horse needs to be cautious this year and think twice before taking action. This is a year of new beginnings, hard work and lots of new activity. The east and southeast have favorable energy and make corrections if you spend a lot of time in the south or northwest.
