THE OTHER SIDE OF THE COIN

We read and hear about the Dentists’ viewpoint - and that of the Canadian Dental Association - that mercury toxicity affects very few people. It is not toxic enough for its use to be banned in Canada - but has anyone heard from patients so affected? Or even dentists? One dentist recently took time off from his practice for three months to detoxify from mercury! I struggled for many years to find the reason for my suffering - no MD I contacted was aware of the symptoms of mercury poisoning, some of which I had (*) were:

    * Loss of short-term memory*
    * Drowsiness*
    * Insomnia*
    * Depression
    * Nervousness
    * Irritability/fits of anger
    * Anxiety
    * Chronic fatigue*
    * Loss of appetite
    * Anemia
    * White patches in mouth
    * Ulceration of gums, tongue*
    * Burning mouth*
    * Bleeding gums
    * Foul breath
    * Excessive salivation
    * Constipation/Diarrhea*
    * Colitis /Abdominal cramps
    * Irregular heartbeat*
    * Alterations in Blood Pressure
    * Pain and/or pressure in chest*
    * Fine tremors (hands, feet, lips, eyes)
    * Chronic headaches
    * Dizziness
    * Ringing in ears
    * Persistent dry cough*
    * Shallow/irregular respiration*
    * Allergies, asthma, sinusitis
    * Swollen lymph nodes in neck
    * Cold hands and feet
    * Reduction in kidney filtering
    * Muscle weakness
    * Joint pain/weight loss*
    * Constriction of visual field* … and more.

I found an ND who carried out tests without result - finally in exasperation he said: "Have a hair analysis." The test result showed a mercury content running off the page!
I went to a dentist and was unaware there was a protocol necessary when replacing mercury amalgams. He failed to use a rubber dam and consequently, I consumed a considerable amount of mercury. Be aware! There IS a proper protocol for removal as shown according to Dr. Murray Vimy (1):

    * A rubber dam must be used
    * Special high speed suction device called 'clean-up'
    * Alternate source of breathing air
    * Room fans for ventilation
    * Protective coverings
    * Eye protection (goggles)
    * Copious amounts of purified water
    * High volume suction
    * High pressure drills
    * Specific protocol for filling removal

Detoxify for a week before your treatment and afterwards (many protocols exist and can range in duration from a few weeks to a few years depending on concentrations of mercury in your body and the type of detoxification used).

Note also that "several key acupuncture meridians cross the line of the teeth as they pass over the face as these meridians are connected to secondary organs and other sites, problems with a front incisor may have an impact on the kidneys as the kidney meridian passes through the incisor teeth - and kidneys in turn relate to the knee joints with patients who have incisor problems or a bridge at this location, I always surprise them by asking about the arthritis in their knees - which they invariably have"! (Dr.Keith Scott-Mumby)(2)

After the dental work I had white teeth once more, but a few months afterwards, I had more symptoms of mercury toxicity. Now all my energies were focused on finding someone who could help me chelate. At that time few professionals were trained to do this type of detoxifiying. Only recently, in the late 1990’s, do we have over 60 ND’s who are trained and licensed to practice chelation in British Columbia!

In the meantime, I followed a herbal detoxification program, a homeopathic detoxification and a dietary supplemental detox diet to help clear some of the mercury. Now I can state that a recent blood test for mercury shows I am once again ‘normal’, so it will be great when finally all the symptoms retreat.

There are many stories in the books quoted in this article about mercury causing sickness - so do read them and educate yourselves. If many people urged Health Canada to ban mercury - how good that would be for all of us, especially our children, and Mother Earth, too.

Dental factors have been associated not only with the cause but also with the cure of chronic disease. A number of cases are on record in which "incurable" conditions have been reversed following dental overhaul. It is therefore vital that patients and dentists alike understand and appreciate the significance of each and everything done in the oral area. Dentists need to change their treatment techniques and materials. They must stop implanting materials that combine with saliva to create electric batteries in such a sensitive area of the body (instrumentation is available to measure this with any proper biological dentist).
It seems that dentists are greatly mesmerized by porcelain. "It’s strong, lasts longer, etc. There are now over one hundred different ceramic, glass-ceramic, and ceramic polymers that are superior to the older restorative materials in terms of both strength and function. In addition, we can now treat small decayed areas with a pin-point laser or air particle beam and fuse the material with a laser to the tooth. These techniques not only preserve the strength and beauty of the tooth, but may keep the tooth from needing future, more destructive dentistry. By using these techniques early on, we may be able to eliminate the need for most root canals and crowns; maybe even eliminate the need for most adult dentistry.

Dr. James Hardy writes: 'Be aware that composite resin is a superior filling material to amalgam, is electrically neutral and therefore does not disturb the body’s own natural electromagnetic fields. Health practitioners, using advanced screening methods have concluded that tooth coloured composites containing petroleum products, metal oxides, aluminum, petrochemicals and/or bis-phenols may be worse for your long-term health than the mercury alloys they are replacing.

Never forget about the quality of your toothpaste! It should be chemicals and fluoride free. Fluoride is a poison and should never be on the market in any form or in any product or as any kind of by-product, no matter how minute the quantity.

There is a lot of information available, so we can inform ourselves. For example, "What Doctors Don’t Tell You", a brilliant newsletter from England, is full of invaluable health research that can be ordered for a small fee at: www.wddty.co.uk.  Their October 2002 issue Special report: Fluoride: a generation of dummies, is brimming with factual information.

Besides ruining teeth, fluorosis presents real dangers to health. Especially worrying is the repeated association between water fluoridation and cancer. In a study covering 13 to 17 years, comparing 10 fluoridated and 10 non-fluoridated US cities, a fluoride-linked increase in cancer deaths of around 10% was found and confirmed by the NCI. As fluoridation increased, so did oral cancer - by about 33 - 50 per cent, per year in treated areas! The havoc caused by this chemical, even in the smallest of quantities and at governmentally "allowable" amounts is cumulative and destructive.

It has been proven that dental cavities are not reduced in the population in general or amongst young children, by fluoridating the drinking water, in fact the opposite was proven to have occurred.

The overwhelming evidence of the sinister effect of fluoride has led to ever increasing studies and decisions over the decades, such that in Europe notice was taken and is now almost fluoride free except for several cities in England (affecting about 10% of the population) and a small area in Spain! Some day we will catch up and so will our health!
