Intuitive Painting and the Creative Process
Creativity comes from within. Yearnings can never be satisfied from outside. Within us is a bottomless well of inspiration, our source of originality - who we are. Once we open to our creative process, other blocks in our lives will also move. Within each of us lies an artist waiting to be discovered/uncovered. Our inner child needs to communicate through the creative process.
The creative process begins with chaos; there are no rules; there are no mistakes. Explore all possibilities; have no expectations. A painting, like any relationship, requires time and exploration. Don't rush your process, relax and have fun. Enjoy the feelings as your mind expands in new directions. Be wild. Let your images be what they want to be, let them be weird or pretty; they don't have to make sense. Feel from inside, don't judge, don't compare; each of us has a unique process.
Creativity should be a surprise. If you already know what you are going to express there is no room for new experience. When you reach a space in a painting where you don't know what to do, relax, keep painting; it will be what it wants, when it wants. Feeling lost when you begin a painting is good. Become familiar with being lost; this is the way we find new and exciting things that we never thought possible. These “difficult” areas often become our most beautiful expressions. As in life,
difficult moments are often followed by an opening, an understanding,
an opportunity for growth.
Born and raised in Kelowna, B.C., Canada, I attended the Alberta College of Art in Calgary, studying both commercial and fine art. I furthered my artistic studies at the Ontario College of Art in Toronto as well as privately in Los Angeles. After extensive travel, my husband and I settled in Vancouver, B.C. with our son.
