On THJ Blog Now
Welcome. After our six years in hardcopy publishing and going into our tenth year online, we’re very grateful for your loyal readership - those of you who are veteran adherants to alternative medicine, spirituality, metaphysics and new visionaries alike.
We believe in the freedom to choose how we heal and treat our bodies, in the freedom to choose how we think, create and protect our environment. Here at The Healing Journal we always have it in the backs of our mind that we wish to level the playing field.
I'm so happy to announce significant changes: expansion of the Gold and Silver Profiles. All the details coming in the next newsletter. Everything else will stay and look the same for now. We're also keeping The Healing Journal's powerful Blog as it attracts so many new readers and our late but determined presence at Facebook willl make us so much more social.
Change is upon us - everywhere.
At THJ we don't have an agenda beyond endeavouring to provide the best news, articles and reviews we can dig up. But here at Year's End, there's a subject we want to share with you that may come to affect how you experience this site, your own and the rest of the internet - SOPA, or the Stop Online Piracy Act. It is headed through U.S. Congress with its sister bill PROTECT-IP in the Senate. In Canada we are equally affected. SOPA threatens to fundamentally change the way information is presented online by placing massive restrictions on user-generated content like posts to forums, video uploads, podcasts or images. In a nutshell, here's what that legislation would do:
- Assigning liability to site owners for everything users post, without consideration for whether or not the user posted without permission. Site owners could face jail time or heavy fines, and DNS blacklisting.
- Requiring web services like YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter to monitor and aggressively filter everything all users upload.
- Denying site owners due process of law, by initiating a DNS blacklisting based solely on a good faith assertion by an individual copyright or intellectual property owner.
- Giving the U.S. government the power to selectively censor the web using techniques similar to those used in China, Malaysia and Iran. The Great Firewall of China is an example of this type of embedded, infrastructural internet censorship.

Elected representatives - US Congress announced that frozen pizza is a vegetable - who knew pizza could be political food - fodder for lobbyists! The United States Congress voted to twist new USDA guidelines for school lunches that would have increased the amount of fresh fruit and vegetables in school cafeterias and instead declared that the tomato paste on frozen pizza qualified it as a vegetable. ConAgra and Schwan pressured Congress to comply with their financial interests. It simply doesn't suit the makers of frozen pizza, chicken nuggets and tater tots for schools to offer real food in the form of fresh fruits and vegetables. Do we get it yet?

Update on Micael Schmidt's sentence: He's fined $9,150 - placed on one year probabtion providing raw milk through a cow-share business with consentiing adults. The production and distribution of unpasteurized milk under the Ontario province’s Health Protection and Promotion Act will not make allowences for the cow-share business model. First he was virtally acquitted and seen as having a legal right to provide cowshare owners with raw milk from their communally owned cows - drinking the dividends of one's investment - as a convoluted way in side-stepping the obnoxious and farreaching powers of the dairy industry that cares so much that we, the public, do not drink "unhealthy" milk and thus was protecting us, with the help of the government, of course... and then Michael Schmidt was found guilty on appeal last September on 15 of 19 charges as the lower court’s decision to acquit was shockingly reversed.
Michael Schmidt talks to reporters outside the courthouse today in Newmarket

Michael has been courageously fighting for the fundamental right to provide raw milk to consumers in the form of cow-ops and other free choice stratagiesthat has enraged the dairy industry monopolists causing his farm to be raided by government officials.
Michael recently ended a 37 day hunger strike when an overwhelming outpouring of public support persuaded Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty to meet with him and discuss furthering the issue of free food choices in Canada.

Sign the "Ban the Smart Meter" petition for BC: https://cstorg.wufoo.com/forms/q7x3s5/
I strongly suggest that you take a few minutes to listen to this analysis of the SMART METER program and that it measures more than your "electricity" - http://youtu.be/8JNFr_j6kdI
A Georgia Straight (Vancouver BC) article by Matthew Burrows updates us on strategies: Should one opponent of smart meters get his way, British Columbians might be voting to get rid of them the way they did the harmonized sales tax. “Possibly, they could be doing that,” Walt McGinnis, spokesperson for StopSmartMeters.ca, told the Georgia Straight by phone from Victoria. “First, there are a lot of things that have to happen. We have to get our support registered and people have to find us.”
McGinnis said that members of StopSmartMeters.ca will hold a news conference in Victoria on Thursday (November 24) to announce plans for an initiative vote—the same process that led voters to reject the HST.
The event, he said, will show how the Recall and Initiative Act can be applied to the provincial smart-meter program, which was mandated under the Clean Energy Act in 2010. B.C. Hydro is installing 1.8 million meters in homes and businesses by December 2012.
McGinnis said his group wants to assess its options before committing to overhauling any legislation. Ultimately, he wants a provincewide moratorium pending further study of the effects of smart meters.
Meanwhile, NDP energy critic John Horgan plans to present another petition against smart meters, called Occupy Smart Meters, in the legislature. This article and the VOTE continues at http://www.straight.com/article-546641/vancouver/activists-set-sights-smart-meters (at 6pm on the November 27th the vote was 90% for recall!)
On the run from radio frequencies - by Alex Ballingall - from http://www2.macleans.ca/2011/10/13/refugees-in-their-own-land/
Ciizens for Safe Technology (CST) has filed a complaint with the Human Rights Tribunal, seeking accommodation for all individuals who have different health conditions, which would be negatively impacted by pulsed radiofrequency microwave signals emitted by the Smart Meters being forced upon their homes. This Human Rights Action is now underway and those with the following conditions or other conditions, who are concerned and wish to avoid Smart Meter emissions due to health problems, should contact Una St.Clair at una@citizensforsafetechnology.org.
Heart conditions, Pacemakers, Implants, Relient On Medical equipment – dialysis, oxygen, blood transfusions, Immune Sytem compromised, Fibromyalgia, Lupus, MS, MCS, EHS, Epilepsy, Seizures, Cancer, Diabetes.
Some Canadians go to great lengths to escape waves of radiation from electronics that are supposedly considered harmless:
As the mother of two young girls, Samantha Boutet does what she believes is necessary to protect her family. That’s why, with the spread of radio frequencies from increasingly common wireless technology, Boutet is a refugee in her own land. The naturopathic doctor and her two daughters are relocating more than 600 km east of their home in Maple Ridge, B.C., to a small cabin in a remote valley in B.C.’s Kootenay mountains.
The decision was spurred by a series of health problems affecting her older daughter, Amelia, which started in Grade 4. For more than a year, Amelia suffered from deep headaches, nagging nausea, inexplicable muscle soreness, tingling extremities, and insomnia, Boutet says. Eventually, after visiting a number of specialists, the family doctor diagnosed Amelia with electromagnetic hypersensitivity (EHS), a medical condition that involves a range of non-specific symptoms attributed to electromagnetic frequencies (EMFs), much like those described by sufferers of multiple-chemical sensitivity, another environmental illness believed to be caused by low-level exposure to chemicals.

The late Andy Rooney (my favorite kinda guy) has a thing or two to say about milk and the dairy indusrty at http://youtu.be/Zu_PCGJ-rkA
...and a few quotes from this enlightened philosopher - a man who has the gift of saying so much with so few words
"I've learned.... That the best classroom in the world is at the feet of an elderly person.
I've learned.... That when you're in love, it shows.
I've learned.... That just one person saying to me, 'You've made my day!' makes my day.
I've learned.... That having a child fall asleep in your arms is one of the most peaceful feelings in the world.
I've learned .... That being kind is more important than being right.
I've learned.... That you should never say no to a gift from a child.
I've learned.... That I can always pray for someone when I don't have the strength to help him in some other way.
I've learned.... That no matter how serious your life requires you to be, everyone needs a friend to act goofy with.
I've learned.... That sometimes all a person needs is a hand to hold and a heart to understand.
I've learned.... That simple walks with my father around the block on summer nights when I was a child did wonders for me as an adult.
I've learned.... That life is like a roll of toilet paper. The closer it gets to the end, the faster it goes.
I've learned.... That we should be glad God doesn't give us everything we ask for.
I've learned.... That money doesn't buy class.
I've learned.... That it's those small daily happenings that make life so spectacular.
I've learned... That under everyone's hard shell is someone who wants to be appreciated and loved.
I've learned.... That to ignore the facts does not change the facts.
I've learned.... That when you plan to get even with someone, you are only letting that person continue to hurt you.
I've learned.... That love, not time, heals all wounds.
I've learned.... That the easiest way for me to grow as a person is to surround myself with people smarter than I am.
I've learned.... That everyone you meet deserves to be greeted with a smile.
I've learned... That no one is perfect until you fall in love with them.
I've learned... That life is tough, but I'm tougher.
I've learned.... That opportunities are never lost; someone will take the ones you miss.
I've learned.... That when you harbor bitterness, happiness will dock elsewhere.
I've learned.... That I wish I could have told my Mom and Dad that I love them one more time before they passed away.
I've learned.... That one should keep his words both soft and tender, because tomorrow he may have to eat them.
I've learned.... That a smile is an inexpensive way to improve your looks.
I've learned.... That when your newly born grandchild holds your little finger in his little fist, that you're hooked for life.
I've learned .... That everyone wants to live on top of the mountain, but all the happiness and growth occurs while you're climbing it.
I've learned.... That the less time I have to work with, the more things I get done.
To all of you.... Make sure you read all the way down to the last sentence.
Of friends.... HAPPY FRIENDSHIP WEEK TO YOU!!!!!! YOU ARE MY FRIEND, AND I AM HONORED!"

UPDATE ~ More horse patou-ey hits the judicial fan on raw milk in BC a note from Gordon Watson
On December 6th, 2011, Fraser Health Authority had another go at our raw milk cowshare, but went away all-but-emptyhanded. Mister Justice Blok was so dismayed by the dog’s-breakfast - procedurally-speaking - in front of him, that he punted it over the horizon of time. There wasn’t anything else he could do, given that our matter had been allotted 20 minutes, when it’s bleeding obvious that it will take at least 2 full days.
The lawyer for Fraser Health got an Order stating that its officers can go on to the farm property at any time, without a Search Warrant. But so what? Under the Public Health Act, they could’ve done that anyway, if and when they had good reason. Shareholders of Our Cows had to pony-up thousands of $$ for the lawyer who represented Michael Schmidt. Which I don‘t begrudge because we got good value : Jason Gratl's performance was very good. What I do resent is, dollars being filched from the public purse and squandered in the legal racket, rather than being spent where they're supposed to be. A handy example of how outrageous this nonsense is, was the recent incident in North Vancouver, where an 82 year-old woman home at 2 in the morning, in a taxicab, with a blanket around her shoulders, so a bed could be freed-up a bed for an incoming patient, because a whole floor of that hospital is closed, due to lack of funds. Yet this same administration can find obscene amounts of $$ to pay Susan Beach to hurl fiery darts at us
We spent the whole day sitting around waiting to be heard for, not about an hour. Illustrating what Chief Justice Bauman said lately about the justice system in British Columbia : it’s a disaster “going over the cliff in slow motion” … just another day at the office as the Big Machine shudders into irrelevance.
I learned my style in these things from watching the bull riders in the rodeo. Coming out of the chute there was no love lost between Fraser Health’s lawyer, Susan Beach, and me. Yesterday I was in my ‘good behaviour mode’, but when we get into the hand-to-hand combat on the substantial issues, I’ll be my prickly, cantankerous worst. George Gordon taught me the meaning of the term “the belligerent claimant in person” My idea of a good time is exercising my right to make full answer and defence against whatever the Adversary throws at me.

Gordon S Watson, Justice Critic, Party of Citizens Who Have Decided To Think For Ourselves & Be Our Own Politicians
More horse patou-ey hits the judicial fan on raw milk in BC.
from a note to THJ from Gordon Watson: "The allegation against me is brought against Michael Schmidt, too (see recent article on home page). The tip-off that this prosecution has nothing to do with any real threat our dairy (Home on the Range in Chilliwack) poses to the health of British Columbians, is that the prosecutor has asked for Michael Schmidt to be fined $50,000 in this province (BC), for a fine imposed against him in his Ontario case and of which he was acquitted! Make sense? No, not if we were playing by the rules of Court. But very obviously, we’re not. There is no other, more logical, explanation but that they already know that Schmidt's acquittal has been reversed in appeal. If so, what does that tell you about the integrity of the tribunes? (editor's note: ... correct assumption as that happened exactly so - see article on home page)
"Obviously, this thing is being quarter-backed by the Dairy Farmers of Canada. Which speaks volumes as to why the decision in the Crown’s appeal of the decision in Michael Schmidt’s case in Ontario, was delayed this long. Obviously, they figured they’d stall ’til Michael was laden with this next burden, so as to have him doubly-demonized in the media.
"If my suspicions prove correct, then that shows how utterly out of touch with public opinion they all are, there in the high places. Every time they go at him, Michael Schmidt’s stature as a champion of this cause, rises. Every time there’s a mention of raw milk in the media, Home on the Range gets more people asking to buy a share in our herd.
"This prosecution is a despicable propaganda exercise, such as Josep Stalin and his pals used to put on. In this local show-trial, Fraser Health’s case is predicated upon the Affidavits of Inspector George Rice. The veracity of which sworn statements, Alice Jongerden (Home on the Range) was prevented from scrutinizing. But this time he will be taking the witness stand as part of me exercising my right to make full answer and defence.
"Publicity is the Soul of Justice. I urge you-all to be there when I get Insp. Rice under cross-examination. You’ll see a bit of drama …. I'll render him down to a pile of sweaty suet, making him admit he lied repeatedly on his those Affidavits, coached by Fraser Health’s counsel.
"When we finally get to bite-in to this allegation… which is yet a long, long way off… officials right on up to former deputy Minister of Health, Andrew Hazelwood, will be exposed for having arranged to hector the agisters of our cowshare through the legal racket, even while they were well aware that cowshares are categorically exempt from the statute requiring all milk for sale, to be Pasteur-ized. See the letters on my website from the (then) Minister of Agriculture John van Dongen and Ron Duffel, (then) Director of Food Safety.
"The thing is set for November 2nd. Before we get to that stage, though, I’ll be applying for a Bill of Particulars. “In politics, a week is a lifetime”.
