When talking to Michael Schmidt, you can sense the pride he carries when it comes to producing his milk. The 54-year-old organic farmer is not scared of the repercussions of his raw milk trial – nor will he ever quit. Last December, Schmidt was convicted of defying a court order by continuing to distribute raw, unpasteurized milk from his 30 cows. The result was $55,000 in fines which, according to his website, he doesn’t plan to pay. "No, I will not pay and I will not resist whatever befalls me," said Schmidt.

The Canadian Biotechnology Action Network is a coalition of 18 environmental, public advocacy and consumer groups in Ottawa (1). The CBAN is sponsoring a registry for companies in Canada and the US that refuse to buy GM sugar. Over 70 companies have already signed the registry in the US. CBAN is also calling on consumers to avoid Rogers Sugar/Lantic brands and write to Cadbury (a Lantic customer) with their concerns about GM sugar.

First: since the exchange between all parties of evidence and arguments in file S114027 was not accomplished per the directions of Justice Brown, we are not ready to go to Court on May 14th to deal with my appeal of the Order made by Inspector Rice.   Therefore I would like confirmation that you are amenable to me setting a new date, farther into the future. Most likely, after we find out the decision in the Schmidt case in Ontario. Which will be after August 2009
